The Koenigsegg Regera is definitely one of the most innovative hypercars world has ever seen, and not only for its huge power of 1500bhp and for the carbon fiber shell, but also for the gearbox. Koenigsegg Direct Drive system as it was named by the manufacturer, uses a hydraulic coupling and a crank-mounted electric motor to fill the torque gap.

Koenigsegg’s ‘Regera’ – translated as ‘to reign’ in Swedish, features a huge 5.0-litre twin-turbo V8 which delivers 1100bhp alone direct to the rear wheels and also three electric motors being powered by a 9kW battery pack which was placed in the centre of the car. The electric motors deliver 700bhp to the rear wheels. Thanks to the enormous power, the Regera can hit 62 mph in 2.8 seconds and 249 mph in 20 seconds.

Two years after it was initially announced, the Regera is entering production after the red and black and green carbon fiber models have been revealed at this year’s Geneva Motor Show.
