Watch the trailer for Martin Scorsese’s new film Silence. The film is adapted from a novel by Japanese author Shusaku Endo and is about two Portuguese Jesuit missionaries in the 17th century, played by Andrew Garfield and Adam Driver, who go to Japan in the time of Kakure Kirishitan (“Hidden Christians”) to find answers about their mentor Liam Neeson who went missing. For this movie, lead actors Andrew Garfield and Adam Driver were mentored by a Jesuit by spending seven days of silence in a Jesuit house in Wales.
The film will have its premiere in Vatican at the Pontifical Oriental Institute for Jesuits, where 400 priests are expected to attend.
Silence will screen with a limited release starting December 23rd and will go wide in January 2017.
